The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) implements a in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) a global programme on Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP). With funding support from the Government of Switzerland, through its state secretariat for economic affairs (SECO), UNIDO implements the National RECP Programme in Indonesia. This program is intended to improve the resource productivity and environmental performance of manufacturing, tourism and micro-enterprise sectors in Indonesia and eventually to contribute to sustainable industrial development.
The RECP Program is implemented in Indonesia through the creation of the Indonesian Network for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production under the mandate of the global RECPnet. This program also sets up and supports nodal agencies, such as Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), with primarily a technical mandate.
ITB already establish the Centre for Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production Indonesia (CRECPI) to act as the focal point for the delivery of RECP services on behalf of UNIDO and the Government of Indonesia to industries, governments and other stakeholders. In addition, the CRECPI will act as a catalyst to disseminate RECP Program, sustainable industrial development, and green industry in teaching and research activities across ITB.
UNIDO has made an agreement with ITB in working for preparatory activities, such as reviewing past, ongoing RECP, and related initiatives in three target sectors. This agreement also consists of the operation of CRECPI. A rapid appraisal of the target sectors (metal production industry, agro and food industry, chemical industry) and three industrial zones/parks (Riau, East Java, and Makassar) is required to determine the potential scope and methodology and to ensure their feasibility in buying from enterprises and government authorities. ITB would also be expected to provide recommendation on the targeted sectors to be selected for the RECP implementation in Indonesia.
